ULAW NEWS | Issue No. 10 Ho Chi Minh City University of Law marks a successful first round of FIBAA accreditation, ready for the forthcoming on-site assessment

From 15 to 17 April 2026, the University of Law, Ho Chi Minh City (ULAW) successfully conducted the first round of the FIBAA accreditation process in an online format for five academic programmes, including: LLM in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law, Doctor of Laws in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law, LLM in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedural Law, Doctor of Laws in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedural Law, and the High-Quality Bachelor of Law Program (taught in English). This milestone marks a significant step in the University’s strategic trajectory toward standardizing and internationalizing academic quality, while demonstrating a firm commitment to benchmarking against international accreditation standards in a substantive, rigorous, and sustainable manner.

The review commenced with an online opening session attended by the Rector Board, heads of academic and administrative units, faculty members, staff, and the FIBAA expert panel. In his opening remarks, ULAW leadership emphasized that participation in FIBAA accreditation extends beyond a conventional quality assurance exercise; rather, it constitutes a strategic opportunity for the University to engage with global academic standards, absorb expert recommendations, and continuously refine its programmes, pedagogical approaches, and internal quality assurance systems in line with modern and effective practices.

Within the framework of the online site visit, the FIBAA panel conducted a comprehensive series of interviews and in-depth consultations with key stakeholder groups across the University. The evaluation process was methodically structured in accordance with FIBAA’s accreditation criteria, focusing on programme objectives and learning outcomes, curriculum design and academic content, teaching and assessment methodologies, alignment with labour market demands, student support services, programme governance, degree of internationalization, research integration, academic services, and the robustness of internal quality assurance mechanisms.

Specifically, the panel engaged in successive interview sessions with programme directors, academic staff, current students and alumni, as well as administrative and support personnel representing various functional units. These discussions were conducted in a professional, open, and constructive manner, reflecting ULAW’s strong spirit of collaboration, institutional accountability, and meticulous preparation. Through these exchanges, the University effectively articulated a coherent and comprehensive portrait of its development strategy, educational philosophy, programme delivery capacity, and the dynamic interplay between teaching, research, community engagement, and the practical demands of the legal profession.

At the closing session of the first round, held on the afternoon of 17 April 2026, the FIBAA panel acknowledged and highly appreciated ULAW’s cooperative engagement throughout the review process. The experts expressed particular admiration for the University’s strong institutional commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement, the coherence and consistency across its programmes, and the professionalism, proactiveness, and openness to feedback demonstrated by its leadership, faculty, staff, and learners. Notably, the learner-centred pedagogical approach, alongside well-developed academic support systems, library resources, facilities, and student services, were recognized as distinctive strengths.

Preliminary outcomes from the online accreditation round indicate that ULAW has made a notably positive impression on the international expert panel. Beyond demonstrating effective organizational and managerial capacity in programme delivery, the University has also reaffirmed its strategic orientation toward depth-oriented quality enhancement, grounded in academic rigor, societal needs, and professional responsibility as foundational pillars for long-term development.

The successful completion of the first round provides a solid foundation for ULAW to confidently advance to the next phase of the accreditation process. According to the planned schedule, the second round will involve an on-site visit, during which international experts will conduct in-person interviews, undertake facility inspections, and perform more comprehensive benchmarking prior to finalizing the accreditation report. Building on the encouraging outcomes achieved thus far, and guided by a spirit of thorough preparation, professionalism, and academic integrity, ULAW stands ready for the forthcoming on-site evaluation, continuing to affirm its institutional standing, educational quality, and capacity for international integration as a leading legal education institution.
